Villa on the Shores of Lake Garda

The Garda region possesses all the characteristics of a “Pre-Alpine xerothermic oasis”: the sub-Mediterranean climate is so mild and distinct from other lakes that it is referred to as a specific “Benaco climate.” The lake water—cooler than the air in summer and warmer in winter—acts as a thermal regulator, mitigating both summer heat and winter rigors.

The eastern shore is known as the Riviera degli Olivi (Olive Riviera). Introduced in the Etruscan era and flourished during Roman times, the olive tree, alongside the cypress, is the signature flora of Lake Garda. This mild environment also supports lush spontaneous vegetation, including wild rose, dittany, oleander, mimosa, and acacia. The western shore, the Riviera dei Limoni (Lemon Riviera), is famous for its citrus cultivation in traditional terraced gardens with stone pillars and pebble walls.

In this setting, Spazio Verde created a villa garden by planting quintessential local species: topiary Buxus for a formal style and cypresses. To add an exotic touch, we planted groups of Chamaerops Excelsa (Trachycarpus Fortunei) palms, known for their bright green fan-shaped leaves and yellow-cream blooms. We installed a high-performance irrigation system for maximum water savings and recessed LED spotlights for the dramatic lighting of centuries-old tall trees. Finally, a surface drainage system was implemented to improve permeability and reduce the waterlogging typical of lakeside terrains.

The result? A luxurious villa, complete in every sense: because a house without a garden is like a dress without pockets.
